Title(s): Welcome to the N.H.K
N.H.K. ni Yōkoso
Creator: Gonzo
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Age Group: All Ages (Nothing objectionable)
Vintage: July 9, 2007
Status: Completed
Summary: Welcome to the N.H.K. revolves around the lives of several young-adults all living in or around the city of Tokyo. Many different lifestyles are shown though most of the time the story focuses on the concepts of being a hikikomori, anime otaku, and having most of the characters experience intense feelings of depression and loneliness.
The main protagonist is Tatsuhiro Satō, a university dropout entering his fourth year of unemployment. He leads a reclusive life as a hikikomori, ultimately coming to the conclusion that this happened due to some sort of conspiracy. One day just when his life seems entirely unchanging, he meets Misaki Nakahara, a mysterious girl who claims to be able to cure Tatsuhiro of his hikikomori ways. She presents him with a contract basically outlining that once a day they would meet in the evening in a local park where Misaki would lecture to Tatsuhiro in an effort to rid him of his lifestyle. During these outings, many subjects are discussed, though they almost always pertain in some way to psychology or psychoanalysis. One of their first meetings in fact deals with interpreting Tatsuhiro's recent dreams. Both Tatsuhiro and Misaki, however, have a tendency of over-doing things, such as hiding the truth, especially from each other and themselves. Despite Misaki's offer and pressing attempts at salvation, it is Tatsuhiro's neighbor and high school friend, Kaoru Yamazaki, who Tatsuhiro often turns to in moments of need and support. Also, despite his own idiosyncrasies, Yamazaki is one of the more stable characters in the story.
The novel also regularly mentions drug use by the main character, and later, his friend, Yamazaki. This element of the story is downplayed in the manga, and left out of the story altogether in the anime (with the exception of Hitomi). This is likely due to several reasons, including a more public-friendly rating, as well as ultimately being unneeded for the progression of the plot.

This anime really appealed to me. I could relate to it kind of and liked how realistic it was. It can get you thinking of how bad/hard life can get. The protagonist goes through all time lows and you see if he conquers those or not. I liked the set of characters, def. Psychology involved in this which is always a plus. Overall an excellent work of anime which can relate to real life a lot, highly recommend it

Before I start my review let me tell you an interesting story. Once I was in Naruto Forums and someone asked what the best anime ever is. Retarded huh ? If you,re one of the more intelligent people here you would know that naruto is by far the best anime/manga. It has pretty much everything and is a complicated and badass story at the same time. But later one retard came and said that Welcome to the nhk is the best anime. I was really surprised because he was the only person who thought so there. So I gave the anime a try even tho I usually know (read more)

Despite all it's explicit moments like "seeing" Hitomi completely naked and uncensored and many other perverted stuff Sato thinks of, this is actually pretty great. If you learn to ignore some of the nudity, then behind those explicit scenes, is a story masterfully written and a small cast of characters that are memorable and maybe someone you can relate to.

To be honest, watching them grow from being hopeless to having a sense of living to the end almost gave me manly tears.

Firstly, the picture here is NOT the actual art style that is in the series, so don't judge it by that!

This series is about a guy who basically stays in his house all day. As the series advances, he gets in a lot of situations that are hilarious, such as having to make an eroge game, as well as becoming addicted to a "Final Fantasy" game, in which he coops himself up inside of his house again.

This series takes the tone of seriousness and also hilarity! This guy does have social anxiety, but he deals with this while gaining a friend or two. (read more)

This was truly an excellent and insightful anime, which looks at the difficult side of life. I believe 'Welcome to the Nhk' Provokes feelings of empathy as it closely relates to those in society. The journey of the main character- Satou we can relate to, living the life of a Hikikimori and someone with no hopes in his future. You can see his character grow, and eventually understand the perspective of people such as them, rather than judge you begin to understand.
The ending was a bit over dramatic, but it finishes the series nicely. There is (read more)

at first i thought that this anime was going to be those common normal or whatever anime. But after a few episode of it, this anime captures me of wanting to know more and more. I think this is one of best anime (in my opinion). The Story line is great. Too bad it end though but still great. If i have to say it, it like one of those MUST WATCH anime even though it is not as great as other anime like one piece, naruto and bleach or whatever but still its a great anime to watch.

I just wanted to point that THIS anime is one of the absolute best I've ever seen. Also after seeing all the recent reviews, I kinda feel like this one is forgotten.
This anime is so much related to the real life. You can learn a lot from it. It is a MUST-WATCH, so don't skip it.
Once you start watching this, finish it.
I swear this is a masterpiece.

Well, this anime features the 2 very important aspects of our every day life and they are:
Being able to rely on yourself and to socialise with other people.
This anime portrays these 2 features in a unique way, making the main character having all these problems, but then he slowly solves those problems while solving other peoples problems aswell.
Well enough said from me, you should be watching this outstanding anime!!!
