It's hard not to be biased when writing a review of an anime based on such an amazing game, but I'll try...
The story is excellent, if condensed. It doesn't delve as deep as the original game, and isn't nearly as intricate, but there are still moments when you can go "Wha...? What's going on? I don't understand...", due to its residual complexity and devious plot twists. You aren't meant to understand some things until later, but it keeps you guessing in the meantime.
One of the most disapointing things about this is that Jade loses most of (read more)

I'm a pretty big fan of Namco's Tales series since the first time I played Tales of Symphonia with my friends. When I learned of this anime, I had to give it a go, especially since I have the corresponding PS2 game. Those of you who are interested in the game and the anime, I highly recommend playing the game before watching this - if for no other reason because its an awesome game! Though with a lot of anime that spawn from video games, a certain something is often left out from the original design. Tales of the Abyss is no exception.

I randomly choose to watch this anime because the name was intriguing. However, i did not at all expect this to be such a wonderful anime. The story is in depth, animation is good, and the plot twists and emotional attachments leave me with chills. It has been a long time since an anime gave me chills. I have never played the game that this was based off of, however this anime was so good that i plan to go out and buy a PS2 and the game just to experience the story again. Truly an anime worth checking out.

this anime is based off of a video game by the same name released by namco. tales of the abyss is part of the tales series of games. each game is sparate from each other in story and characters but are all worth the play. this anime adaptation of the game is fantastic and met my expectations. it is definatly worth the watch if you're into fantasy story with adventure and the whole saving the world theme. full of loveable characters, great story, great animation, and a bit of humor. if you've already played the game then there isn't much you will (read more)
