Nana Osaki is a punk singer who wants to debut with her band, Black Stones (BLAST for short), where she is the lead vocalist and her boyfriend, Ren, is the bassist. Nana and Ren have lived together as lovers since she was 16. When Ren is offered a chance to debut in Tokyo as a replacement member of the popular band, Trapnest (Toranesu in Japanese), Nana chooses to continue on with BLAST and to cultivate her own career instead of following Ren, as she has too much ambition to simply be a rockstar's girlfriend. She eventually leaves for Tokyo at the age of twenty to start her musical career.
Nana Komatsu, the other Nana, has a habit of falling in love at first sight all the time, and depending on other people to help her. When her friends, and then her boyfriend, leave for Tokyo, she decides to join them a year later after having saved enough money at the age of twenty.
The two Nanas meet on a train by chance, both on their way to Tokyo. After a string of coincidences, they come to live together in an apartment numbered 707 (nana means "seven" in Japanese). Despite having contrasting personalities and ideals, the Nanas like and respect each other a great deal.
Nana Osaki gives Nana Komatsu the nickname Hachi (after HachikÅ, because she is weak-willed and has characteristics that resemble a puppy, and also as a joke since hachi means "eight" in Japanese).
While BLAST begins to gain popularity at live gigs, the two Nanas face many other issues together, especially in the areas of friendship and romance. The story of Nana revolves heavily around the romance and relationships of the two characters as one seeks fame and recognition while the other seeks love and happiness. |

its an "alright" anime

this anime alright but not what i hope for at the end. The story line is pretty average and its also funny which is good. But the ending is like "whaaaat......." and you want to know more. The sound track goes with this anime pretty good which i like about it. This anime is not the "must watch" anime but an anime to kill time. i likeit and hope you guys too

This anime's story is so awsome ! very real ! and has a deep convinsing psycology to each charecter ! I really really loved it .. it seemed at the end of this series that there will deffinitly be another season !! and I've been longing for it but .. well .. ?! is there ever gonna a 2nd season !? :(

The story is very good and I dont find that it is Shojo. Instead the fact that the main characters are punk musicians is nice. It interesting but you get easily bored with sentimental scenes however I really like it.

I'm a guy and not a big fan of shoujo-styled anime, but this one was pretty rad. It makes you giggle from time to time and has a pretty cool love story. I would reccomend that people who are just about to go to college watch this. It can get a little dull at times with the animation (makes ya a bit sleepy), but its a laid back, chill at home, type of anime.

Nana is a really good realistic anime that connects to the viewer. With the 50 episodes we get a good time to relate to the characters Nana and Hachiko. It's too bad that they don't have them all here yet.
I especially like how we get the two girls background stories told before the story really begins.

I love this anime. Actually, I don't think love is a strong enough word to explain the way I feel about Ai Yazawa's work.
The characters, coincidences and story, despite being surreal, feel relatable and realistic. That said, Nana is full of drama that will captivate you and leave you wanting more throughout the series. The soundtrack itself is the best I've heard out of all the anime I've watched. Olivia Inspi's A Little Pain still invokes wet eyes for me.
This is a must watch for any musical anime enthusiast or Shoujo fan.
