I started watching this because I am a fan of Edo period animes, and having watched some such as Rurouni Kenshin, Peacemaker Kurogane, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, ext., I welcomed this with an open mind, and it was well appreciated. They open with an oddly modern techno-ish opening, which goes beautifully with the opening theme song, and then it takes you into this plot that couldn't have been imagined easily.
This is an anime that doesn't center around the main character. It has set main characters, but it also heavily looks into the back-stories of side-characters as well. The animation is strange, but not bad, and it really grew on me, and before I knew it, I was hanging off every word and looking at every detail.
It's a beautiful, albeit slow-moving anime, but it is very good and a must watch for any samurai-fan.
