Aoi Hana is a slice of life romance anime about a collection of various unique fleshed-out characters, carefully avoiding the classic stereotypes, blatant jokes and fanservice.
It's a story about first love, jealousy and new feelings. The beautiful scenery is drawn very realistically and the animation overall is quite well done. It's subtle humor and symbolism never appear forced and stilted, and the drama is not squeezed in and fits nicely.

The soundtrack may remind you heavily of various Jaques Tati films (especially Mon Oncle), lovely framing the scenes and increasing the experience and sometimes the tension.
It is a well done story about the life and love of young japanese youths, their hindrances and accomplishments.
The plot twists may lose re-watchability, but the beautiful, akward fumbling characters continue to warm your heart every time.
Enjoy.
PS: Not just for girls, ofc. ( show less)
