Summary:
Haruhi Fujioka, a normal high school student, receives a scholarship to attend Ouran Academy, a school for the rich and privileged, only to discover that at Ouran, virtually anything is allowed. Haruhi accidentally stumbles upon the Host Club, a club made up of six beautiful young men with nothing better to do than to entertain their female classmates, who, likewise, have nothing else to occupy their time. Due to a series of unforeseen events, Haruhi is forced to join the Host Club in order to repay a debt. This outrageously hilarious series follows the stories of these hansom and whimsical young men as they try to help and entertain their fellow students, and the story of Haruhi, who is desperate to graduate from high school as normally as possible while dealing with the antics of her eccentric new group of rich friends.

pros
+ funny character dynamics
+ wide range of personalities and qualities in the characters
+ hilarious humour
cons
- rather random and at points quite vague
- no definite conclusion
- artwork alternates a bit too much
conclusion: only a shoujo? not particularly. surely, it's a romantic comedy with friendship and drama, but one with the stress on "comedy", and hilarious for that matter. colourful, crazy, and utterly unpredictable. granted, there's no particular storyline, and at points the whole thing can be quite vague about what's happening, but if nothing else, the wide range of characters with their ridiculous dynamics make up for that. setting and humour can seem a little juvenile but are overall presented well. delightful, good for comedic relief, refreshing, and overall quite entertaining. the only problems lie in the artwork (at some small points charas don't quite look the same as they did before), and the fact that there's no definite conclusion. aka: for any resolution to the romantic conflict, you might have to go to the manga. me? i'm being a manga otaku; but the anime's funny as heck as well.
