Gon Freecs, a young boy that lives on a small island learns that his father who he doesn't remember is an extremely famous man and has become somewhat of an amazing hunter. Gon takes the hunter exam to seek out his amazing father, but on the way while teaming up with 3 other candidates, Kurapica, Leorio, and Killua, he learns that there is more to becoming a hunter and the challenges that he must face will be beyond his imaginations.
Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss one day discovers that the father he had always been told was dead was alive and well. His Father, Ging, is a Hunter--a member of society's elite with a license to go anywhere or do almost anything. Gon, determined to follow in his father's footsteps, decides to take the Hunter Examination and eventually find his father to prove himself as a Hunter in his own right. But on the way, he learns that there is more to becoming a Hunter than previously thought, and the challenges that he must face are considered the toughest in the world. (From AnimeNewsNetwork.) |

I have only recently got into downloading anime from this site but I have read many of the manga's. I really did enjoy the manga's of both this and One Piece which I personally felt were about equal. So I was astonished to see that one piece had something like 400 "excellent reviews" alone while this only had about 20 reviews in total. Likewise Hunter x Hunter only has 400 downloads of its first episode while One Piece has nearly 4000 downloads of its first episode. Personally I found the story of Hunter x Hunter to be as good as if not better than that of One Piece, with equally dynamic characters and enemies. The dialogue was excellently used to develop the story and the characters, and the animation created vivid action scenes. The entertainment was humorous with several jokes and comic scenes adding humour to otherwise tense scenes. Overall I would say this anime has been overshadowed by One Piece, even though it is easily just as good if not even better.
