Lelouch Vi Brittania didn't die in the end. The scene was cut. CG wouldn't really tell us and would leave us to what we believe in. (note: you can watch the scene in youtube)

It was great. It was awesome. With all its excesses and crude pseudo-philosophies, nobody could mistake Code Geass for a subtle, intelligent show. On the other hand, I can't deny the slick way it appeals to sentiment and intuition to deliver a jaw-dropping political adventure. It verges on madness and, once or twice, even flirts with genius, but always with a keen eye for spectacle.

Although strictly classifiable as a mecha show, Code Geass is not at all defined by this feature; while the political manoeuvres drive the story, the mecha serve the same function as spoilers on an already monstrous sports car. At some point the writers thought: 'They're tacky and superfluous, but what the heck, they'll make things go faster!' Indeed, as accessories, they are extremely good fun, delivering the kind of pyrotechnics and en masse casualties an action show needs these days to keep the kids slavering.

Another aspect that Code Geass brings into perspective is love. There's a lot of loving going on between various characters, and this allowed for both drama and comedy to be played out, and it was done so in a very good fashion too. Several characters’ love stories revolve around Lelouch, most notably those of Shirley and Kallen; both who obviously like Lelouch quite a lot. This is given both comedic and dramatic effects, and eventually plays an important part in the plot.

The animation superseded the previous season's, improving on nearly all points. By now you are probably used to the CLAMP-styled character designs, and who knows, you might've even grown to like them, in spite of their lankiness. Backgrounds and sceneries are done with good detail, and were enjoyable to behold, and the same can be said about the Knightmare battles. Animated in a perfect juxtapose of fluidity and chaos, mixed with great special- and ligthing effects, the battles were enjoyable aesthetically in addition to everything else they provided the viewer with.

Overall the premise is solid and the series sets itself up for serious drama. And it does deliver...sometimes. Perhaps Code Geass's greatest flaw is that it promises great and exciting plots only for them to fall flat in the conclusion or not be concluded at all. Especially guilty are the last few episodes, the endings of will leave many feeling disappointed. The series also suffers from pacing issues. Midway through, the season introduces antagonists that contribute little to the overall plot and take time away from the season's main villains. This is pacing issue continues straight into the last episode when the season ends half-way through a major battle and with little resolution.

-My Theory "LELOUCH IS ALIVE!"-
My stand-point is that since LVB killed his father by ordering the "gods" to do his dirty work, he has obtained the code from CVB. As you know, CVB grabbed LVB's neck just before he got absorbed by C's world, which is ample opportunity to pass the code to LVB. And LVB has the highest level geass encompassing both of his eyes, which seems to be the only requirement to obtain the code.
However, you can argue that LVB still had his geass when he assumed control over britannia. But, if you recall, the way CC received her code from the nun was when the nun forcefully gave her the code, and killed CC in order for the code to integrate fully. This is even better shown in the case of Charles vi Britannia, when LVB ordered his death twice. CVB killed himself the 1st time, and he died for a little while before rising back from the dead. Realise that after he died, he lost his geass and the code set in, making him invulnerable to any geass and physical damage, which later allowing him to move in and out of C's world FREELY like CC could.
(Please do not consider that the code donor has to kill himself in order for this to work...cause VV didn't die from giving his code, he died from his wounds)
Therefore, in order for LVB to become immortal, he must 1st DIE! And what better way to do it than to get stabbed in front of everyone to succeed in achieve a world which Nunnally could live in freely. Realise that earlier I said that the scene of Lelouch vi Britannia's death in this world was the sacrifice he needed to make the world progress to "world peace". To me, the "sacrifice" was the best SCHEME he had pulled off yet!!! The only sacrifice he needed to pull was to never show his face in public or politics ever again!
CC was praying in the chapel, hoping that his big magic show would grant him Immortality and NOT FOR HIS DEATH!! This is because they do not fully know how the code would set in as all the data had been wiped during the attack on the GEASS order. This is why LVB would have thought of the best way to die "If I truly die and not become Immortal, it would only be once. So might as well make my death (hopefully not my only one) meaningful to the creation of a better world for my sis."

He had spent a month thinking how to achieve the Zero requiem before he actually carried out the 1st stage of his plan, which was to take Britannia. Don't tell me he wasted it on predicting Schniezel's nature and taking over Britannia. He would have thought of that LONG AGO!

Besides, the LVB-being-the-cab-driver theory doesn't seem to bad either. Its in sync with my theory as he must hide his face forever.
Also, Anybody realizes that its a bit strange for CC to be in a cart filled with hay with a complete stranger driving the cart? And she seems to be talking to Lelouch.... I know she's mysterious but she's not some kind of leech or maniac who talks to herself either (take the times she seems to be talking to herself, she is actually talking to Marianne). Therefore, it is not a complete stranger. Why would she give up her free-roaming carefree life to FARMING?! It is someone she would want to spend her entire life with. And thus, there can only be one answer, LVB became the lowly cab driver.

This is what I truly believe...
